If you want authentic Chinese food, China Yuan is the place to get it. Serving a variety of Cantonese style foods, as well as other regional dishes, China Yuan is not like the Chinese places you see next to Target or Publix serving chow mein. The dishes at China Yuan are both recognizable and unrecognizable. They do serve dishes that one would see at a take-out place, like pork lo mein and General Tso’s chicken. However, China Yuan also serves dishes like salt and pepper crispy frog and crispy pork intestines. It also serves a variety of seafood, including shrimp, oysters, and even shark fin. Don’t let the nontraditional foods dissuade you from going to China Yuan because the food is exceptional.
My wife and I ordered a few items from the dim sum menu. Dim sum is kind of like an Asian tapa. Most come in the form of a dumpling and typically are brought to the table in succession. We started out with the shrimp dumplings, followed by the pan fried dumplings, and finished with the sesame balls. All three dishes were excellent. The pan friend dumplings (with pork) were cooked just right; not to fried but still a bit crunchy. The sesame balls are more like a dessert. A dumpling is stuffed with a sweet sesame paste then fried. I always order a few when I have dim sum.
Large Menu at China Yuan
We also ordered the beef with orange sauce from the menu. This was crispy beef with a sweet yet spicy sauce. This was very flavorful while not being to overpowering with the spicy peppers. The menu is large with many items listed under dishes with noodles, fish, poultry, pork, beef, shrimp, squid, and vegetables. While some menu items may seem unusual, there is something for everyone at China Yuan. Granted I only tried a very small portion of the menu, but this author will be returning to China Yuan in the near future.
